“Picturespeak”: Obscene Opulence Versus Abject Poverty in Kenya
Many reports indicate that a Kenyan MP can earn over Kshs 850,000 every month (10.5 million a year) in salary, emoluments, travel and sitting allowances in addition to other perks. (Each MP is entitled to a car grant of Kshs 3.3 million and an interest free loan of Kshs 8 million to purchase a home).
However, an average Kenyan lives on less than 100/- a day. Some people argue that earning differentials do not add up to increased poverty levels and that a sound economic policy is what Kenya needs to develop. What is your take on this?
