Why Are We Supporting Thieves?

The ten highest spenders.

   Ministry/Department                                          Amount Spent (ksh/usd)
1.  High Court of Kenya                                         82,572,720 / 1.15m
2.  Roads & Public Works                                      65,646,080 / 910,000
3.  Water Resources Managment & Development  47,664,164 / 661,800
4.  State House                                                     45,546,743 / 632,400
5.  Regional Development                                     45,168,497 / 627,100
6. Cooperative Development                                 44,164,605 / 613,200
7.  Foreign Affairs                                                 42,960,240 / 596,500
8.  Finance and Planning                                       40,948,240 / 568,500
9.  Education Science & Technology                      38,503,323 / 534,600
10.  Office of the President                                   35,458,748 / 492,300

It is the personal nature of these expenditures and their extravagance that the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights draws attention to. We do not argue that all expenditure on vehicle purchases during the period was questionable. The Office of the President, for example, spent more than one billion shillings (US $14m) to purchase a fleet of 417 Toyota Land Cruiser pickups, 24 Corollas and 20 Condors for the Kenya Police. The Ministry of Health also purchased 54 Nissan double cabs at a cost of Ksh.120 million (US $1.67m). We believe that these were legitimate public outlays in the service of ensuring the right to health and security. We also received reports of permanent secretaries and assistant ministers driving modest cars, and we applaud them for it.

We hope the country can follow the example of neighbours such as Rwanda and Burundi, which have taken bold steps, including the confiscation and sale of fuel guzzlers. As of May 2005, the sale of such vehicles had raised US $3.5m in Rwanda and further savings in fuel and maintenance costs are projected.

We hope that this report drives home the simple message that there is an incredible degree of unnecessary extravagance on the part of the Government of Kenya. At a time when so many Kenyans are facing starvation, we hope this report will encourage reflection as the new cabinet settles into office

Why Kenyans Cannot Celebrate.

Following the disputed elections in December last year, Kenya was in the verge of a civil war break out and we do thank God that it never happened despite the fact that more than 1500 Kenyans lost their lives and more than 300000 were displaced without mentioning destruction of properties worth billions of Kenya shillings.

Today there is sigh of relief that Kenyans are going on well with their daily lives despite the fact that price of commodities has sky rocketed and famine is looming. When Dr. Kofi Annan and other eminent African leaders helped to broker peace accord between president Kibaki and prime minister designate, Hon. Raila Odinga, all Kenyans of good will celebrated and we were all relieved that our country wont slide into civil war or genocide.

After the deal, parliament was recalled and the new accord was passed in very quickly and it was put in our constitution. Then after, there was the issue of naming the much awaited cabinet and once again PNU and ODM could not agree on the cabinet portfolios and shamelessly, Dr. koffi Annan has to talk with both principals in order to agree on the issue of cabinet set up. According to reports which were being filtered by the media and other sources, PNU was rooting for a cabinet of 44 while ODM was for 34.Religious leaders and civil organisations wanted a lean cabinet in order not to overburden the Kenyan tax payers since Kenya is one of the country in the world whereby parliamentarians are amongst the highest well paid.

After some weeks of jostling about over the cabinet naming with some leaders even calling for a re-run of presidential elections, if President Kibaki and Raila were not agreeing; both Kibaki and Raila pulled a fast one and agreed on a cabinet of 40 which will be named on Sunday-6th April. Now if we are going to have a cabinet ministers numbering 40 and the same if not more number of assistant ministers, it means that we gone have almost the half of parliamentarians in the cabinet. This is a big burden to the Kenyan tax payers to sustain such a huge cabinet. Kenyans voted for change in last December elections, but now its emerging very clearly that our politicians do not have the well being of our country and its people at heart and rather its only for their well being status together with their cronies.

For the past one month, none of our leaders who has been talking about the displaced Kenyans but they have been busy lobbying for cabinet posts because that’s what they care most about. Kenyans should learn a very big lesson from the current leaders we are having because when they were campaigning and soliciting for votes last year, our sky was full of choppers but today those choppers cannot fly anymore to go and preach peace and reconciliation, address our own internal refugees and even give them hope of how they will be re-settled and to be compensated.

What has emerged now in Kenya today is elite political class who are hell bound to stay in power with their cronies and once they are done, their children to take over. So common mwananchi has no place in our political frame work and that’s why we the ordinary Kenyans should re-examine ourselves and form a political party based with one common interest called Kenya. Unless we start ideological politics, tribal chiefs will always have a free field in Kenyan politics and they will continue playing tribal cards after every five years and we will continue killing each other in their names, and once the “animal” is down, they will continue getting the lion’s share.

Githuku Wa Muirani.

“Kenyans Are Tribalistic By Nature”, Says Mr Kiptoo.

Mr. Kiptoo, a Kenyan who reside in Sweden told Jamii today that Kenya belongs to all Kenyans regardless of there tribal background. He noted that Kenyans knows very well that we are born tribalistic and there is nothing bad in someone being proud of whom he/she is. “Since time memorial, we have been reminded from our childhood that we are Kikuyus, Luos, Luhyas, Taitas, Kalenjins and the list is very long that we cannot finish”, said Kiptoo.  He advised Kenyans to stop living in illusion that Kenya was not tribal. He even gave an example here in Sweden whereby majority of Kenyans who reside here are more tribal than our old people in Kenya.

Mr Kiptoo added that tribalism is there and it is there to stay. Since independence, the government of Kenya has used it for their personal opportunistic political agendas. Tribalism has been protected by government institutions in Kenya. The Kenya we are in now, you better know your tribe. He gave an example where he stated that if you need  a Kenya  ID, you must say where you were born, your parents names and where they were born and a copy of your parents ID, village, location, division, district and that you cannot get an ID without a letter from your area chief confirming that you were born in that village. He however warned Kenyans who are promoting tribal violence, subverting democracy and ruining our economy that soon they will face the law and get punished. Mr. Kiptoo advised Kenyans that tribes are there and they will never go away from our society because all of us we are proud to be who we are. What we need is to respect one another. He told Kibaki and his croonies to hand over power to ODM because they won the 2007 elections.

Mr Kiptoo said that Kenyan conflict is a result of people that have been violated, an election that has been stolen and angry citizens who feel abused and betrayed specifically by an act of theft. ” What the Kenyan people want is peace but peace cannot come without justice and calmness doesnot mean peace” said he. The use of the Mungiki militia is a well-calculated move by the State to intimidate the ODM and its supporters. Promises of equal distribution of the resources were made many years ago and these have not been fulfilled 43 years later. Kenyatta started the thieving of public resources pattern and the elites from his society inherited the trend and now thy have ruined Kenya completely. The clashes are a culmination of the 1969 ideological fallout between Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and at that time the clique of people surrounding the Kenyatta vowed that leadership of the country was not going to cross the famous River Chania. It is by this design that there was every effort to dismantle the ODM and declare Raila Odinga unelectable because he is a Luo.

Kenyan people are crying to get a better institutional framework that will ensure fairness. The historic voter turnout and peaceful way in which the electorate conducted themselves during the 2007 elections is an indication of how determined Kenyans are to make change. They found their voice in the Orange Democratic Movement and all they are now getting, after exercising a peaceful election is a police brutality and a repressive regime. Jomo Kenyatta’s approach to nation building after independence using the “harambee motto”, a socio-capitalistic approach to development inherited specific problems with regard to the equitable distribution of resources. Certain parts of the country were more advantaged than others and here lies the origin of the present conflict.

Little did any one know that the same ghost of unequal distribution of resources would haunt this great nation 44 years later. The “white highlands” where the colonial masters settled were better developed than other areas in the country, better infrastructure to facilitate commerce and industry. These areas are the coffee and tea growing zones of Kenya. The promise to equally share the national cake has not been fulfilled. There is a big gap between the rich and the poor. During the campaign period in 2007 Raila Odinga did a tremendous job in communicating their agenda on the equal distribution and a careful scrutiny of their manifesto, reveals a custom made approach to this distribution that is specific to the resources of the various regions in Kenya. This explains why it turned out that the Orange Democratic Movement became popular with the poor. The strength of the ODM in the 10th Kenyan parliament proves this statement and for the first time in the history of post independent Kenya, the Speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly was voted in from the “opposition” side. This in itself speaks volume on what the Kenya people wanted.

The ideological fallout between Jomo Kenyatta, a Kikuyu, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, a Luo is a significant event in Kenyan history. The latter advocated for the immediate equitable sharing of the national cake among the 42 tribes in Kenya and establishment of legal and constitutional structures that would ensure proper checks and balances. “Business as usual” was the government slogan while “vote for change” was the ODM slogan. The US said clearly through Dr Rice, “It will never be business as usual in Kenya……..” (Kazi isiendelee). The dream of the equitable distribution of resources was well articulated within the “Majimbo” concept during the 2007 political rallies of the Orange Democratic Movement. The poor majority from all the 42 tribes voted for change.

It is simplistic to view the current conflict as a Luo /Kikuyu affair. In the Kenyan context tribes are being used to further political agenda and hit at rivals. The real problem is a stolen election. With intermarriages especially in the urban centers the tribal equation in the country has significantly changed since independence. The only time this vice shows up is during elections! Dictator Moi started his incumbency by his philosophy of following the footsteps of his predecessor and indeed he lived to his word. He used the “silencing” approach and again Luos took the most casualties during this reign culminating in the killing of the then foreign affairs minister, a Luo.

The Luo as a community uphold values that have caused them the greatest number of casualties including political assassinations. They are certainly the most outspoken community hence being silenced by dictators. The attempted coup during Moi’s regime was conveniently branded a Luo conspiracy even though court martial proceedings proved that the event on August 1st 1982 was a pre emptive strike to avert a well organized conspiracy and coup by mercenaries hired by a powerful individual in the Moi government, a Kikuyu, to wrestle power from him. Poor Luos had to be blamed again because the young junior officers in the military involved in the “preemptive strike” were from the Luo tribe. By the time the truth came out these poor souls had already been executed.

These gains are currently at risk with the Kibaki regime. Kibaki cronies think that Kenya is a small private kiosk in Othaya that you can run the way you want. BIG MISTAKE. The shoot to kill orders has brought the country back to the dark days of terror. Mungiki Militia is a state sponsored gang to conduct ethnic killings targeted at the ODM strong holds. This gang is unique because they are taking oaths in Kikuyu language and are now working in cahoots with the Kenyan police. Certainly this is not what Kenyans voted for when they peacefully lined up in the queues to vote for their candidates and with all these killings of innocent souls, Kenya will never be the same again. From the vows taken during Kenyatta’s regime to perpetually retain the presidency within certain geographical confines, to a recent portrayal of Raila Odinga as unelectable because he is a Luo, I truly believe that what is happening in Kenya today was designed then at a high level of conspiracy. It is evident that the 2007 election was unique. The electorate consciously chose their leaders and the post electoral demonstrations bear testimony. There is certainly a wave of change despite the killings and a repressive regime. The regime is on borrowed time!

Mr. Daniel Mwaura and Saidimu Olengais Debates Socialism.

It seems the chairman of Narc-ks Mr. Daniel Mwaura and the CCM chairman Mr. Saidimu Olengais are reading different ideologies of socialism. Mr Saidimu has been fighting Francis Ole Kaparo for long and now I am sure he is relieved after ODM helped him to topple Kaparo. Beside the above, Mr. Mwaura seems to admit also that Kibaki stole his way to power. Back to Socialism, I think “Socialism is a political ideology that simply means to share. The most significant values of socialism are; Community, Cooperation, Equality, Social class and Common ownership. It will be also wise to know that socialism has its traditions which vary from one society to another. In it we have; Revolutionary Socialism which is social democracy and Evolutionary socialism which is communism”. Here is the conversation between the two;

By airing this issue, we will be doing a gradual treatment for our society. by trying to understand each other, we are doing the job of reconciliation.  It is along process. And Sir, “Kibaki is the President in Kenya AND a BIG FULLSTOP!!”  Since we want to solve a problem, we probably won’t agree on the above statement since we as you said in the previous conversation, feels that someone was mischievous. Both Kibaki and Odinga are said to have not taken their responsibility and that Kenya is bigger than the two.

Kenya is being destroyed and you agree with it meaning that we cannot just let it be that way. A civilized society prepares itself by planning and able to fore tell what is going to happen before it’s due. Don’t you agree with me that it our responsibility to tell the whole world the whole truth? It the right time to do it in a manner that does not put inflammable to an already burning house. Let us conquer our feelings in order to make wise decisions

OBS; English is not our second mother tongue! You are advised to check with your Oxford Dictionary when you see new terms in our conversation before you include them in your VOCABULARY.

Mr. Saidimu, I do not need to say much but you seem to be confused on Kenyan politics. Information to you… KIBAKI and RAILA is like PEPSI and COCACOLA…Mukaru Nganga Kenda was left and watch my words. CCM is Close to Social Democratic Party of Sweden. For your in formation, I am an active member of SDP here in Sweden.. So please don’t mix the Kenyan Capitalistic way of thinking with the Swedish Socialist…Mwaura

We belong to the same Batallion and I think it will take time for you to understand me politically. Well.., can i say in simple words that Kenya is BIGGER THAN KIBAKI and RAILA? I have evidence that Raila rigged elections in Luo Nyanza,Western, and some parts in RiftValley to name but a few. Kibaki might have also done the same in some areas in Central. Who is the big thief???? Media propaganda will not help and iam sorry majority in the whole world are like you. Now Kibaki is the President in Kenya AND a BIG FULLSTOP!! Kenyans wre and are still being killed…. Who is AUTHORISING THIS KILLINGS?? AND Why???? The world needs to be told the truth and the whole truth NOT propagandas!!!!!!

MWAURA.It is so wonderful to realize that we are actually soldiers of the same battalion, the social democratic battalion. Our fundamental responsibility is to come out right now and neutralize the situation in Kenya in whatever capacity we can by addressing both Kibaki and Odinga while we try to be balanced. Brother, the Kenyan politics are mystical no wonder even the most promising figures are compromised the moment they join the “house”

There are many theories around the rigging and why it had to happen. Many say that since all was pointing out that Obama and the America people are realizing that something is happening they decided to hold hands and unite. Obama says, in his at most intelligent speeches he makes in all campaigning meetings that SOMETHING  IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA then they all sy; YES WE CAN. He says,(Obama) that if we unite, we can bring down the mighty power of injustice.

All men and women who are morally upright sees the need for change both in America and in Kenya. We must unite because we have a common enemy, that is the social economical and polical injustice. How best can we do this? You tell me that in Sweden the Prime Minister respect the FUNDAMENTAL LAWS. WE EXPECT THAT     our leaders do this as well. Chairman, do you agree with me that fundamental laws are based on natural existence of life? It must be the same in the whole universe. All must have the right to express, group, live, and have the right to speech, belong to any religion of heir choice without being intimidated whatsoever. We argue with the notion that all men are created equal.

In Kenya, when irregularities arise like during the election of 2007, those who thing they are cheated, must have the right to express themselves, have speeches on the issue and group to demand what they think is theirs by this fundamental rights. These groups can demonstrate in the non violence way with the same fundamental intention to protect the basic rights of those who are alleged to be mischievous. Your freedom ends the moment you violet the other Ono’s (JFK) but freedom is not given by the oppressor but taken by the oppressed (MLK JR)

Being a social democrat, have you gone out to demand that Odinga tells his supporters to use the non violence demonstration to eject Kibaki out of office if he cheated? How about Kibaki? Have demanded of him not to order paramilitary police to shoot demonstrators to kill? Myself, I feel I haven’t done much, I am urging to do something to stop this killing and animosity that will be left in our society aftermath. Mr Mwaura, we cannot continue to reproduce the same division we have in Kenya here in Sweden. You must do something to fix that problem. This is very serious and I think we owe the future generation all to ensure we prepare this world for their survival.

The problem as we all know is about even distribution of resources to all Kenyans despite background.

Our leaders are failures! They should have fixed this by constitution long time ago. What is your plan now? there must not be any more bloodshed in our country! Tell me about the Kenya Capitalism.Your Comrade Maasaiwarrior- Chairman CCM Sweden Saidimu Ole Ngais.

Chairman Saidimu,Ideologies on our Kenyan parties are just for the registration…that’s it! Then it’s who is who economically and who makes the best deal with the west…Kibaki is a failure in the eyes of the west because he shifted business from the west to Asia. Now that the deals they made with Raila WONT succeed after Kibaki was declared the Winner and sworn in as our new/old president, the Imperialists are now trying to change positions with plan A being: – Talking with Kibaki to share power with Raila so that they wont loose the lots of money and resources they put on Railas campaign.

Plan B:- Work with Kibaki BUT he has to sign Bussiness deals with the Imperialists/West. Plan C:- Help Raila take power BY ANY MEANS NECESARY thereby caring NOT how many Innocent Kenyans die, with this they have already started it by telling President Kibaki to allow demonstrations knowing very well criminals will use it at this insecure time to Kill innocent Kenyans, Steal from Shops etc, so that the Police in the name of Keeping security (Kills with the GUN)!!! Then hell will break loose…..then……Blah…Blah..blah..

Saidimu, Siasa ya Kenya and Africa as a whole is dictated by the west especially our colonial masters…On Swedish…..Moderates are the right wings here but the unwritten rules in Sweden is that all believe in a Socialist way of life that’s why EVEN Fredrik the Prime Minister will never touch on the FUNDERMENTAL LAWS based on Socialistic way of thinking. Kenyans, “we” are even OVER Capitalistic…I can explain this to you later if you want.

I didn’t know we are comrades in SDP of Sweden. I am a committee member here in FITTJA BRANCH and I am erected SocialNämden member where we meet with all parties represented in Botkyrka and Discuss and make final decisions on most of what is to be done here in Botkyrka Kommun. So I would very much to incorporate you with our Branch sometimes when we have members meeting. Comrades’ greetings

Saidimu says, Chairman Mwaura, I take this opportunity to congratulate you and look forward to work with you since we belong to the same party, the Social democratic party don’t we? Why don’t we set on and work? Yes I am confused and that you also know when it comes to Kenyan politics. Things are never the way they look like. Rules are not followed because corruption has its own rules, principles, “democratic” don’t mean the same thing in Kenya coz the environment is created to suite corruption.

Sir,you say;………… KIBAKI and RAILA is like PEPSI and COCACOLA…Mukaru Nganga Kenda was left and watch..my word..”

Saidimu says; You agree with me that our politics are failing because we have no evidence based theories in our way of politicking?
i said before, a social democrat cannot vote for moderaterna don’t  don’t you agree? I want to understand what you mean by Mwaura say; So please dont mix the Kenyan Capitalistic way of thinking with the swedish Socialist…

The Swedish socialist are for ex. the left part/Vänster partiet. Swedish capitalist are the Moderaterna and you and active social democrat.

CCM Sweden and I are stable Social democrats whether in Sweden or in Kenya. A social democrat in the west does not change into a moderate in the South. Please clear my confusion. Remember we are all trying to understand how to solve our national problem. This is possible if you and I stop ignoring the root cause of the problem. We must listen to the signs and learn to identify the symptoms of the disease that is gradually eating our society.
Please help me out.

I have posted the press release on my site. I am also sending by my registration as a member in the struggle. But then the other question remains, Since we have made this Humanitarian org with the Christian community Bagarmossen Out Reach ministry, and our intention was to cooperate with you, what possibilities are there or are we going to work parallel for the same cause?  I have realized that there is already a bridge between UHCK and newly born MOREDEK as if UHCK was another political party.

UHCK is non political and her members can as well be members of MOREDEK if desired. This is my Democratic.( You know this days, you really have to pinch yourself to feel that you have the right to say anything at all) We are a non political humanitarian organization. This is the reason I am involved. The United for the humanitarian Cause for Kenya (UHCK) was born out of an emergency need to address humanitarian issues arising after at election saga… It was born out of a powerful prayer session at Bagarmossen Outreach Ministry.. We want to help with what we can and this is only possible if we unite.

As Christians, we have a responsibility to help our fellow human beings when they are in need. However, when it comes to the political position, then I am with the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Kenya. This struggle must not negatively influence my position as a humanitarian activist for those who lost their lives, maimed or lost their family members. This issue is not going to be easy because it has been made difficult for more that 44 years now. It is a shame that we are so much divided. I sincerely dislike it and it stinks that it is so. By involving myself with a Humanitarian activity and at the same time demand my right for a democratic country seems to me to be the only left solution I have.

I am utterly dismayed that whatever we do anytime from the moment the vote was stolen is going be suspicious, with the tendency to separate us more. We must strive against this feeling. In any case, it was all about dividing resource and opportunity fairly among all Kenyans. It was about a constitution that reflects the need of our people and our country. It was never about the Jaluo Agwambo’s neither was ever the Kikuyu Murani’s It was to be all 40 and more tribes of Kenya a thing that has never been. How can we unite our society? On what grounds can we cooperate? How can we prove that is not about Kibaki and Odinga?

And above all? How can the rigging of 2007 general election be restored? One thing that is certain, those who lost their lives, are gone and paid the ultimate price for our stupidity and madness and many are maimed and reduced to refugees due to our miss conduct and unfairness. We must work to prevent this chaotic scenario in the future. Lest we become other races laughingstock Please give a solution to this chaos. About 30 people attended the meeting and the new group – Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in Kenya was formed.

The group does not limit itself to humanitarian issues but will also tackle the political issues. Details will be released later. In the meantime, it is open for work with groups and individuals interested in bringing lasting and peaceful solution to the crisis in Kenya. The view is that there is need for dialogue. kheros is a defunct human rights organization whose mandate may be limited as it may not be able to touch on political issues. I doubt whether reviving it will be useful.

Brother, the Kenyan politics are mystical no wonder even the most promising figures are compromised the moment they join the “house”

There are many theories around to hold hands and unite. Obama says, in his at most intelligent speeches he makes in all campaigning meetings that SOMETHING  IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA then they all sy; YES WE CAN. He says,(Obama) that if we unite, we can bring down the mighty power of injustice.

We Believe In You KESOFO, Says Mr. Muraya Mwangi.

After a long period of unity drought, there is finally a small cloud of hope- KESOFO’S DECEMBER 1st UNITY PARTY. By “unity drought”, I do not mean to be ignorant of past repeated efforts by patriotic Kenyans to bring us, the Kenyan community here in Stockholm Sweden, together. Even though those dreams didn’t bear much fruit at the expected time, they have never died. Just as Olengais wrote, the spirit of familiarity (and I add tribalism, ego, pride, etc) might have just slowed down the mission.

But thank God! A new, well loaded with vision generation is here. KESOFO.This is the generation of dreamers and vision bearers. I call them water walkers. They dare do the “logically impossible”. We all can’t ignore the fact that Kesofo’s Unity vision is coming at a time when we’ve had a dangerous storm of division mixed with death scaring thunders of gossip and shock electrified lightning of rumours and propaganda. It’s been hard to tell white from black- ama kweli kikulacho ki ngouni mwako and rafiki yako ndio adui yako.

But no matter how long the night might be, dawn is always sure to come and after a drought comes rainfall. I can smell a mighty downpour of peace, love and unity within our community. I see a small cloud, the size of a man’s fist, just around the corner. It has formed itself in the heart of Kesofo. It’ll sooner than later darken and cover the Kenya-Stockholm earth before bursting into an Oasis of love in an emotional and spiritual desert. I can almost see all of us drown in it. It’s a vision, maybe not so clear for every one of us to see through, but as I can see, it is pregnant with hope and life. Without a vision, the people perish.

Oh, how I wish that someone out there would help me applause Kesofo. Let us appreciate them, it doesn’t have to be me or you, it just have to be someone. Let us stand and honour this bold step of faith. I believe that will encourage these love pursuers fight to beat odds like tribalism, ego, hypocrisy, faked smiles and hugs, jealousy and hatred etc. Let us love and believe in them. They can make it- if only we, the audience, sing along. To them, I perceive, even the impossible is possible. This vision is well timed. Keep it up, Kesofo and please pursue to the sweet end. May God bless and unite all of us. KWA UMOJA, PAMOJA:  KESOFO NJENGENI UKUTA.
